I remember when I first started on my own pregnancy journey. I was constantly googling things like “how to boost my fertility” and “pregnancy prep hacks”, always searching for tips and tricks to optimize my fertility and prepare my body for pregnancy. Want to read my full story? Start with this blog post.

Since then I’ve attended a ton of workshops, taken numerous courses, read a million blog posts, and spent time reading many, many books on fertility and pregnancy preparation!

I know that there are so many fertility and preconception resources out there to help you on your pregnancy preparation journey, but I wanted to cut through the noise and share my top recommendations with you.

Here are my top 5 must-read books to help you optimize your fertility and prepare your body for a healthy and thriving pregnancy:

  1. Real Food For Fertility by Lily Nichols

Lily Nichols is one of my favourite pregnancy experts, I really value her focus on optimizing health and nutrition through real food. In this book, she focuses on the power of nutrition to optimize your fertility and ensure a healthy start for your future baby.

  2. Enhancing Fertility Naturally by Nicky Wesson

Nicky Wesson is a herbalist specializing in fertility and pregnancy, and I really liked how she weaved her own story and learning journey into this book, which also includes super practical strategies for optimizing fertility. If you’re looking for a really accessible fertility book to start with, I’d choose this one.

  3. Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler

This is a book that I really think every menstruating human should own. It is really THE fertility awareness method book. It was constantly by my side when I struggled to conceive after my miscarriage. It really helped me to understand my own cycle so that I could in turn understand my fertility and what was really going on with my body.

  4. Nourish by Reshma Shah and Brenda Davis

This book is an essential read for anyone who follows a vegan or plant-based diet, and is a really great primer on which nutrients vegans/plant-based eaters need to prioritize and practical ways to ensure you’re getting them in ample amounts.

  5. In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan

Ok, I admit, this is not a preconception or fertility-related book, but I’m including it here because I am a huge fan of Michael Pollan’s nutrition philosophy, which I use as the basis for my #1 nutrition rule: eat real food. If you’re new to the idea of how what we eat affects our health and well-being, this is a great place to start!

I hope you enjoy these fertility and pregnancy preparation books as much as I did and that they become a permanent fixture on your bookshelf, just like mine!
